Aquinas School Students Get In Touch With Science
Most kids need a bus to go on a field trip, but the students at St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School stayed in their own parking lot when they were visited by the Mobile Discovery Center. Sponsored by the National Science Center and US Army, this 18-wheeler packed with exhibits and hands-on science experiments is a classroom, science museum and exhibit hall "on wheels." It includes such interactive displays as Van De Graff generator, Electronic Glass Breakers and lessons on the principles of night vision in the Persistence of Vision exhibit.
"It was a wonderful way to engage children in hands-on activities that spark their imagination about the wonderful ways of science as well as use their math skills in a unique and exciting setting," said Science Teacher, Jeryl Glascock.
| "We are constantly looking for ways to develop our students' skills both inside and outside the classroom," says principal Sister Maria Goretti, O.P. St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School has earned a reputation in the community for setting a high standard of technology integration into the classroom. "Most students are encountering computers before they can even speak. Programs like this develop their skills in a constructive way that will allow them to build upon their experiences and perhaps inspire them to pursue careers in technology, scientific research or engineering." | ![]() |
