NATIONAL VOCATIONS AWARENESS WEEK AWARDS
St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School students participated in and received the Silver Award in the Catholic Schools Division of the DiocesanVocation Spiritual Olympics. The contest was held January 8-14, 2006, during National Vocations Awareness Week. Students were encouraged to pray for vocations to the priesthood and the consecrated religious life. In competing for the award, Catholic school students throughout the Diocese of Arlington were asked to do acts of service and sacrifice including extra prayer time, helping those in need, reading the Bible, attending Mass, and spending 15 minutes visiting Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Each sacrifice was awarded a point. In addition to the Diocesan Vocation Spiritual Olympics, Catholic school students from across the Diocese of Arlington participated in the Diocesan Vocation Prayer & Drawing Contest. The winning prayer chosen for the Diocesan Vocations Prayer card was composed by Aquinas 2 nd grade student Brendan Miller. Father Brian G. Bashista, Diocese of Arlington Director of the Office of Vocations, presented the students of Aquinas with the Silver Award in the Diocesan Vocations Spiritual Olympics on March 17, 2006. Father Bashista also presented Brendan Miller with a crucifix for composing the winning prayer in the Diocesan Vocation Prayer & Drawing Contest. All students received a copy of the prayer card with Brendan’s prayer which reads as follows: Diocese of ArlingtonChildren’s Vocation PrayerO, my God, thank you for calling me to holiness. Help me to be a better person and to listen to Your voice so that I may know my vocation. I ask this through Jesus Christ Your Son. Amen. |
