Aquinas celebrates catholic schools week 2006

Student Council officers and student representatives collected 500 cans of soup and containers of oatmeal from Aquinas students during Catholic Schools Week to donate to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Students wore jeans with crazy accessories and hats for Catholic Schools Week Student Appreciation Day.

National Catholic Schools Week was an exciting week for students, faculty, staff, and families at St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School.   Events during January 25, 2006 to February 3, 2006 celebrated what makes Catholic education special.   This year’s theme “Catholic Schools: Character. Compassion. Values.” says it all!  

Special Masses to celebrate the Feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas and the kick off of National Catholic Schools Week were celebrated at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church.   An oil painting of Saint Thomas Aquinas was dedicated to commemorate the school’s patron saint, Saint Thomas Aquinas.   Other events included the Science Fair, PTO Skate Social, Volunteer Luncheon at Chili’s Restaurant, Teacher Appreciation Luncheon sponsored by the PTO, “Pizza with the Priests and Sisters” for Vocation Awareness Day, Parent Appreciation Coffee Reception, Open House for prospective families, and a Title I Open House and Workshop.    The George Mason Youth Ministry returned to Aquinas for a spiritual and uplifting Festival ofPraisein the school hall.  

Student Council officers, with the help of 7 th and 8 th grade student representatives, collected 500 cans of soup and containers of oatmeal from students for Souper Week for Super Students.    The food was donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society to help those in need.    

 Catholic Schools Week ended with a special PTO sponsored presentation of Peter and the Wolf by the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra, jeans day with crazy accessories, and an ice cream treat during lunch from the PTO for Student Appreciation Day.    Throats were also blessed for the Feast of Saint Blaze.   Catholic Schools Week was filled with exciting events for everyone!
